8 million visitors spending £700 million a year
Hanningtons Department Store, affectionately known locally as the ‘Harrods of Brighton’, grew from a single shop into one of the largest single freehold estates in Brighton.
The estate sits on a 1.32 acre site and has dominated North Street for nearly 200 years. It was the most prestigious shopping address in Brighton and today stands poised for another transformation.
Behind North Street, sits an historic building known as Puget’s Cottage, once the site of a school. By creating a new entrance to The Lanes, this historic and attractive building will be revealed for the first time in 140 years.
The design of Hanningtons Estate sensitively reflects the history of the site and makes use of local materials.
