Renovation of 38-42 East Street

Redevco is part way through an extensive restoration programme at 38-42 East Street Brighton, which will restore this partially listed building to its former glory and create 12 premium apartments on the upper floors.

Andrew Foulds, Portfolio Director at Redevco comments, “The ground floor of this building is occupied by a fantastic range of retailers including Maje, Pret a Manger, Lush, Bobbi Brown and Sandro. But the façade was looking tired and the building was in need of essential repairs to preserve its integrity. The offices had been redundant for many years and were no longer fit for purpose.

“We have completely renovated the frontage – just as we are doing along North Street – and are midway through reconfiguring space on the upper floors to create twelve premium studio, one and two bed apartments. These will be available to rent from May 2018. Some of these are dual aspect and all apartments incorporate modern fixtures and fittings, including Bosch kitchen appliances and granite worktops. They will be available unfurnished and incorporate a mix of carpeting and hard wood flooring throughout.”

These works from part of Redevco’s commitment to a masterplan approach for the original Hanningtons Department Store, once known as the ‘Harrods of Brighton’.

Andrew adds, “We hope that by creating new apartments and attractive retail opportunities, we will breathe new life into this important part of Brighton, which will have a positive effect on the whole area.”
