All lanes lead to brighton

So with Christmas finally, although merrily, behind us it is time to embrace 2017 and take a look at what will be going on in this fine city for the New Year!

Never one to sit on its laurels Brighton has plenty of excitement to offer whether you are a local or a welcome visitor – and in January it is all about exercise!

January is the time for resolutions and the most popular is getting fit! So if Christmas hit your waistline a little harder than expected then try the Brighton Park Runs. These 5k jogs are a regular feature at both Preston and Hove Park and are worth investigating as they are completely free.

The events are every Saturday and jogging commences at 9am prompt. For those a little worried about such a run – the organisers state you don’t need to be fast and you can take the 5k at your own pace. For further information click here – http://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ .

Got the 5k down? Then maybe it is time to look toward the Brighton Marathon – this year in April. Although General Entries are now closed, if you are quick, you can apply for one of a number of Charity places. Check it out: http://www.brightonmarathon.co.uk/2017-charities.

If cycling is more your bag than road running, you might be interested to know that entries are now open for the annual London to Brighton bike ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The race takes place on the 18th June and will see hundreds of people take to the roads on two wheels in aid of the charity. Remarkably this event has been running since 1975, when it started with only 36 riders! Of course the big news for Brighton in 2017 is that work will begin on the Hanningtons Estate site at the bottom of North Street (and into the South Lanes). The famous Brighton department store will once again become a focal point as the area is redeveloped, ready to house a plethora of shops and eateries currently missing from the eclectic mix that is Brighton. So – for those who prefer to get their exercise through retail therapy, you will soon have a host of high street and boutique stores to peruse. Keep your eye on this blog for details of what to expect in the coming months.
